NINA YOAKUM'S VISION FOR FLORIDA FAMILIES 

TO PROVIDE QUALITY, AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE ​

Nina believes access to affordable, quality healthcare should be a right, not a privilege. She will work to:

  • Expand Medicaid to cover the more than 800 thousand uninsured Floridians.

  • Make access to mental health readily available for all. 

  • Provide better care options for the elderly. 

  • Prioritize care for those affected by the ongoing Opioid crisis. 

  • Defend women's reproductive rights. 

TO CONSERVE

OUR ENVIRONMENT

Nina considers climate change to be a significant cause of concern, understanding the value of protecting Florida's natural resources. She will work to:

  • Ban fracking. 

  • Make our state a global leader in renewable energy innovation, especially in regards to solar energy.

  • Achieve environmental justice for marginalized communities. 

  • Clean our water sources, including our coast and rivers. 

TO PROTECT AND IMPROVE OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM 

Nina understands our state's need to invest in the development of tomorrow's leaders. She will work to:

 

  • Fully fund our public K-12 public schools as well as vocational and technical schools. 

  • Increase wages for teachers and other school staff members.

  • Cut excessive testing. 

  • Protect and increase funding for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. 

  • Make our schools safer while opposing arming teachers. 

TO ADDRESS THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS ​

Nina recognizes that the shortage of affordable housing in the Orlando area is one of the most severe in the U.S.. She will work to:

  • Ensure renters’ rights in Tallahassee, and support capping their rent payments.

  • Protect and defend Florida’s Home Rule.

  • Vote in favor of the Tiny Homes Florida Commission's Code in 2021.

  • Let municipalities refurbish abandoned homes and find new purpose for empty buildings.

  • Ensure full funding of the Sadowsky Trust Fund to create more affordable housing.

TO ENSURE EQUALITY FOR ALL

 

No matter one’s race, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, health, age, or socio-economic level, Nina believes we must all be given equal opportunity to pursue our own happiness. 

  • Nina will amplify the voices of our Black, Puerto Rican and immigrant communities.

  • Nina supports the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and will work to make sure those with disabilities are afforded everything they need. 

  • Nina will work to ensure women always have the right to autonomy over their own bodies, as well as legal equality through the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.

TO ADVOCATE FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

Criminal Justice Reform

Nina recognizes the need for criminal justice reform at the state level.  She will:

  • Fight to end cash bail.

  • Legalize recreational marijuana, and work to free those incarcerated on drug-related offenses. 

  • Oppose immigration detention centers in the state of Florida.
